About the Park
One of the most popular destinations on Vancouver Island, reservations are recommended. Over 2 km of sandy beach and 5.5 km of hiking trails within the park. There are many day trips accessible from Rathtrevor, and it is only 30 minutes from the Nanaimo Ferry Terminal.
At low tide, the ocean recedes almost a kilometre. Visitors of all ages can play in the sand and explore the shoreline. When the tide rolls back in over sunbaked sand, the warmed water is perfect for swimming.
Rathtrevor is ideal for a relaxed family outing. Camping is available year round. Campsites are within a five-minute walk of the beach, which stretches for 2 km. The park also has a large day-use and picnicking area.
Bird watching is a popular activity here. In spring, large numbers of seabirds congregate for the annual herring spawn. From February to April, Rathtrevor is one of Vancouver Island’s best spots for viewing migrating Brant geese.
